playing with purple

Bet you thought emerald was the universal color of the year, didn’t you? Well surprise surprise, it isn’t. In Norway, it’s PURPLE! Back in late 2012 we were tapped by a Scandinavian design company to style a color-of-the-year campaign for the Norwegian market, so we got down to business and played with some purple!

editorial flashback >> Jordan and Kayla

It’s a new year and we’re having a little retrospective over here at Kit This. In order to move forward, you have to look at where you’ve been and what you’ve done, right? It’s been fun to look back. We’ve met and worked with some amazing people, we’ve learned a lot, and we’ve done some work that we’re proud of and that we really, really love. So let’s take a little trip down memory lane.

First up, Jordan and Kayla from March 2010, shot by Erika Dufour.

We loved this story. The twin-like moments in the styling;  the backdrop (conceived and executed, on the spot, by Erika and her team); the relationship between Jordan and Kayla.

Style it: Party dressing

Posted by brandon >> Leave a comment

Our favorite thing about the holidays? All the opportunities to play dress up, of course! With just a week until Christmas and 2 weeks until New Year’s, party season is in full swing and it’s time to break out the bling (sorry, couldn’t help myself).

Under the auspice of “holiday-party-dressing research,” I headed over to the brand new brick-and-mortar installment of one of our very favorite online shopping destinations, Luxury Garage Sale, to see what a girl might find if she was in search of the perfect holiday outfit.

I found a few ideas.

Sparkly statement neckwear and a long, flowy skirt. Perfect for making a ladylike impression.

A special, perfect skirt. Perfect for sitting, standing, dancing, and definitely prancing. And making an artsy impression.

Red and green. Simply perfect for the holidays. Why not? Your neighbor has Santa and however many reindeer on his roof, so why not make a little — slightly more stylish — statement of your own?

look 1: DKNY skirt, Etro collar, vintage bag, Opening Ceremony sandals; look 2: Lanvin skirt, Shourouk necklace, Rachel Comey lace pants, Pedro Garcia shoes; look 3: Les Prairies de Paris dress; Maison Martin Margiela boots; Krizia bag; Diana Broussard ring ;  }

You can get most of these pieces online here, or call or visit:

B’s travel diary: Turkey

Posted by brandon >> Leave a comment

In celebration of Turkey-day, I thought I’d share a little from my trip to — where else? — Turkey.

As the cold sets in here in Chicago, I find myself dreaming about all the warm weather fun I had over the summer.

Back in June, I had the pleasure of spending 10 days in Turkey, both in Istanbul and in a beautiful seaside village called Yalikavak, Bodrum on the Southern coast. I went with a very good friend who is Turkish (and German) and whose family resides either year-round or part of the year in Turkey, so I had the opportunity to view the country from a local’s perspective.

We started in Yalikavak in her Aunt and Uncle’s vacation home, high up on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean. After 26 hours of travel, I arrived to this beautiful and lush retreat around midnight and was welcomed with smiling faces, open arms and fresh cherries and apricots. Things were off to a very good start.

And when I woke, the view absolutely took my breath away.

Needless to say, the trip just got better from there. I took about 400 pictures, but I’ve narrowed it down a bit in an attempt to not recreate the boring-slideshow-of-our-family-vacation-that-none-cares-about-but-me. Hope you enjoy it!

Turkey is a glorious place. Filled with beautiful scenery, rich history, delicious food (hands down the absolute tastiest cherries and apricots I’ve ever had in my life!), and incredible shopping, it is definitely a place to add to your bucket list.

*And just a note about the animal shots. There is a HUGE problem with stray animals in Turkey. My friend’s aunt says that, in Bodrum, families come for the summer, get their children a pet, and then just leave it at the end of their vacation. So sad :( . My little 10-yr old travel companion is determined to fix the problem and is working on a Sarah MacLachlan-ASPCA-style video as I write this… Save the animals!
